The [[population density]] was 1,177 people/sq mi. There were 186,937 housing units with an average density of {{convert|449|/mi2|/km2|}}. The [[Race (United States Census)|racial makeup]] of the county was 81.24% White, 13.57% Black or African American, 0.30% Native American, 2.29% Asian, 0.06% Pacific Islander, 0.85% from other races, and 1.69% from two or more races.
