== Mathematical interpretation of ambiguity == In mathematics and logic, ambiguity can be considered to be an instance of the logical concept of underdetermination—for example, <math>X=Y</math> leaves open what the value of <math>X</math> is—while overdetermination, except when like <math>X=1, X=1, X=1</math>, is a self-contradiction, also called inconsistency, paradoxicalness, or oxymoron, or in mathematics an inconsistent system—such as which has no solution. Logical ambiguity and self-contradiction is analogous to visual ambiguity and impossible objects, such as the Necker cube and impossible cube, or many of the drawings of M. C. Escher.<ref>{{cite journal|last=Goldstein|first=Laurence|year=1996|title=Reflexivity, Contradiction, Paradox and M. C.
