===Chinatown=== In recent decades, efforts have been made to establish a successor to the earlier ethnic neighborhood of [[Chinatown, St. Louis|Chinatown]] in the city of St. Louis.<ref name="ucity">University City Olive Boulevard Design Guidelines</ref><ref>{{Cite news|last=Bryant|first=Tim|title=University City hopes to grow business with Olive Link|language=en|work=stltoday.com|url=http://www.stltoday.com/business/local/university-city-hopes-to-grow-business-with-olive-link/article_2a44fd69-8465-59e5-89d5-910b1c78008b.html|access-date=2017-12-13}}</ref> A number of [[Asian supermarket|Asian grocery stores]] and restaurants exist along [[Missouri Route 340|Olive Boulevard]] between I-170 and Skinker Boulevard in University City.<ref name="rft">Riverfront Times, July 20, 2005.</ref> The route contains mostly Chinese businesses, rather than residents.<ref name="kplr">KPLR, October 20, 2010.</ref> Although efforts were made to designate part of the area as "Chinatown", surrounding community members objected to the proposals.<ref name="ucity" /> Also, the [[Missouri Department of Transportation]] has jurisdiction over part of Olive Boulevard and does not permit decorative archways or gateways spanning the roadway, as can be seen in other Chinatowns.<ref name="ucity" /> As a result, there is no officially designated Chinatown in the St. Louis area.<ref name="rft" /> Since 2016, the University City government has sought to foster economic development along the corridor with tax incentives<ref>{{Cite web|title=Olive and 170 TIF {{!}} University City, MO - Official Website|url=https://www.ucitymo.org/798/Olive-and-170-TIF|access-date=2022-01-28|website=www.ucitymo.org}}</ref> and by rebranding it "University City Olive Link".<ref>{{Cite web|title=blandesign - University City Olive Link|url=http://www.blandesign.com/portfolio/sample_06/|access-date=2022-01-28|website=www.blandesign.com}}</ref>
