In May 2005, Ortiz made an appearance for the professional wrestling promotion Total Nonstop Action Wrestling (TNA). On May 15, 2005, at [[Hard Justice (2005)|Hard Justice]] Ortiz served as special guest referee in the [[NWA World Heavyweight Championship]] title match between champion [[Jeff Jarrett]] and challenger [[A.J. Styles]] at the behest of [[List of authority figures in professional wrestling|Director of Authority]] [[Dusty Rhodes]]. The conclusion of the match saw Ortiz knock out Jarrett with a [[Hook (boxing)|right hook]] after Jarrett shoved him, which allowed Styles to hit his "[[A.J.
