The city council has nine members: a councilman-at-large and eight members elected from wards. The city is located in the 98th [[New York State Assembly|Assembly]] district, currently represented by Republican [[Karl A. Brabenec|Karl Brabenec]]. Democrat [[James Skoufis]] represents the city in the [[New York State Senate|state senate]] as part of the [[New York's 42nd State Senate district|42nd district]].
