The franchise originated as a dine-in restaurant targeting families and also served alcohol, pasta, salad bars and desserts. Pizza Hut dominated the New Zealand fast food market during the 1970s, 1980s and 1990s, holding 75% of the market share at its peak. The franchise's success encouraged other fast food chains including [[Domino's]], [[Eagle Boys]], [[Pizza Haven (Australia)|Pizza Haven]] and [[Hell Pizza]] to enter the New Zealand market.
