=== Piano works === As a composer of classical piano sonatas, Clementi was among the first to create keyboard works expressly for the capabilities of the piano. He has been called "Father of the Piano".<ref>{{cite web |url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b01mnwzz |title=Father of the Piano |publisher=bbc.co.uk |access-date=12 May 2013}}</ref> Of Clementi's playing in his youth, Moscheles wrote that it was "marked by a most beautiful legato, a supple touch in lively passages, and a most unfailing technique." Mozart may be said to have closed the old—and Clementi to have founded the newer—school of technique on the piano.<ref>{{Cite EB1911 |wstitle=Clementi, Muzio |volume=6 |page=490}}</ref> {{Listen|type=music|header=6 Sonatinas for Piano, Op. 36, No. 1 | filename = Clementi, Sonatina N.1 - 1 Mov. Some of the earlier and easier ones were later classified as [[sonatina]]s after the success of his Sonatinas Op. 36.
