In 1974, Jenkins, then with the [[Texas Rangers (baseball)|Texas Rangers]], became the first baseball player to win the [[Lou Marsh Trophy]], an award given annually to Canada's top athlete. He was also named the ''[[Canadian Press]]'' [[Lionel Conacher Award|male athlete of the year]] four times (1967, 1968, 1971, and 1974).
