Anti-colonial sentiment surged during the interwar years.<ref name=":8" />{{Rp|page=130-136}} The [[Easter Rising]] and [[Irish War of Independence]] led to the UK conceding independence to Ireland. Turkey became an independent country in the ruins of the Ottoman Empire and fought off interventions from Britain, France, and Italy.
