Breathed lived in [[Iowa City, Iowa]] during the early years of the strip, and the setting of ''Bloom County'' resembles Iowa City in several ways. Breathed used the [[call letters]] [[KRNA]] to refer to ''Bloom County'''s rock radio station featuring "Rockin' Charmin' Harmin".
