==Demographics== Although technically only Chile's sixth largest city, with an urban area population of 295,918 (296,655 in municipality<ref name="INE"/>), the [[Gran Valparaíso|Greater Valparaíso]] metropolitan area, including the neighborng cities of [[Viña del Mar]], [[Concón]], [[Quilpué]], and [[Villa Alemana]] is the second largest in the country (951,311 inhabitants). According to the 2017 census of the [[National Statistics Institute (Chile)|National Statistics Institute]], the commune of Valparaíso spans an area of {{cvt|401.6|sqkm|0}} and has 296,655 inhabitants (144,945 men and 151,710 women). Of these, 295,918 (99.8%) lived in urban areas and 737 (0.2%) in [[rural area]]s.
