Spurred by the popularity of the live-action ''[[How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000 film) |How the Grinch Stole Christmas]]'' (2000), Universal Pictures produced ''[[The Cat in the Hat (film) |The Cat in the Hat]]'' (2003) starring [[Mike Myers]] in the titular role. Based on its success, an animated feature of ''The Cat in the Hat'' was approved.
