On July 27, 2021, [[University of Oklahoma|Oklahoma]] and [[University of Texas at Austin|Texas]] formally notified the SEC they were seeking "an invitation for membership". On February 9, 2023, the Big 12, Texas, and Oklahoma announced they had reached a buyout agreement that allowed the schools to join the SEC in 2024.
