The Port Jefferson Union Free School District covers [[Belle Terre, New York|Belle Terre]] and most of Port Jefferson. In 2008, the district had 1375 students.

There are three schools:

* Port Jefferson Middle School and High School currently share the same building located on 350 Old Post Road. The Middle School (7th and 8th grade only) was previously located at 118 Spring Street.
