===Relationship with cyanobacteria===
In [[taiga|boreal forests]], some species of moss play an important role in providing nitrogen for the ecosystem due to their relationship with [[nitrogen fixation|nitrogen-fixing]] [[cyanobacteria]]. Cyanobacteria colonize moss and receive shelter in return for providing fixed nitrogen.
