==Instrumentation==

The opera uses an [[orchestra]] with the following [[Instrumentation (music)|instrumentation]]: 2 [[Western concert flute|flute]]s (fl. 2 doubling [[piccolo]]), 2 [[oboe]]s, 2 [[clarinet]]s, 2 [[bassoon]]s, 4 [[French horn|horns]], 2 [[trumpet]]s, 3 [[trombone]]s, [[harp]], [[cimbasso]], [[timpani]], [[cymbal]]s, [[bass drum]], [[triangle (musical instrument)|triangle]], [[String section|strings]].

[[Banda (opera)|Banda]]: Verdi did not fully orchestrate the parts of the on-stage band, but rather composed it in the style of a piano reduction, leaving the actual realization to the person in charge of the band. Over the years many versions were created, varying from theater to theater depending on the instruments available, but none of them is authoritative.
