==Legacy== Thompson was designated a [[Persons of National Historic Significance|Person of National Historic Significance]] in 1937.<ref>{{DFHD|1103|Thompson, Sir John Sparrow David National Historic Person}}</ref> His collected papers were donated in 1949 to the [[National Archives of Canada]] by his son, Colonel John Thompson.{{sfnp|Waite|1985|pp=viiβix}} A ranking of the Canadian Prime Ministers was published by [[J.L. Granatstein]] and [[Norman Hillmer]] in 1997.
