Yang is married to Japan-born Akiko Yamazaki, who was raised in Costa Rica.  They met in 1992 during a 6-month Stanford exchange program.<ref name=Fortune2000/> Yamazaki graduated from Stanford University with a degree in industrial engineering and is a director with the [[Wildlife Conservation Network]].<ref name="StanPR">Stanford University Press Release.
