The population density was {{convert|1,335.5|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. The racial makeup of Ferndale was 1,281 (93.4%) [[White (U.S. Census)|White]], 1 (0.1%) [[African American (U.S. Census)|African American]], 22 (1.6%) [[Native American (U.S. Census)|Native American]], 20 (1.5%) [[Asian (U.S. Census)|Asian]], 2 (0.1%) [[Pacific Islander (U.S. Census)|Pacific Islander]], 17 (1.2%) from [[Race (United States Census)|other races]], and 28 (2.0%) from two or more races. [[Hispanic (U.S. Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Latino (U.S. Census)|Latino]] of any race were 77 persons (5.6%).

The population density was {{convert|1,343.2|PD/sqmi|PD/km2|sp=us|adj=off}}. There were 663 housing units at an average density of {{convert|644.4|/mi2|/km2|disp=preunit|units&nbsp;|units|}}. The racial makeup of the city was 93.34% [[Race (United States Census)|White]], 0.29% [[Race (United States Census)|Black]] or [[Race (United States Census)|African American]], 0.51% [[Race (United States Census)|Native American]], 0.58% [[Race (United States Census)|Asian]], 0.07% [[Race (United States Census)|Pacific Islander]], 1.30% from other races, and 3.91% from two or more races. 4.27% of the population were [[Race (United States Census)|Hispanic]] or [[Race (United States Census)|Latino]] of any race.
