The day and boarding school occupies much of the village center. Founded in 1843 by educational reformer [[Sarah Porter]], the school has played a significant part in Farmington's history since its founding. As of the mid-2010s, the school owned over 90 buildings in Farmington center, approximately 70% of which were historic. Since then, Miss Porter's has been concentrating its footprint around its core buildings at the center of Main Street.
