Operational management is delegated to the chief executive, Nick Merriman.<ref name="EH People"/> The chief executive is supported by an executive board of eight directors.<ref name="EH People"/>

In 2013/14, prior to becoming a charity, English Heritage employed 2,578 staff.<ref name="2013/14 Annual Report"/>
