The official language of Guatemala is [[Spanish language|Spanish]]. It is spoken by nearly 93% of the population and is found mainly in the departments of the Southern region, Eastern region, [[Guatemala City]] and [[Petén Basin|Peten]].<ref name="Cia2">{{cite web|url=https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/guatemala/|title=CIA - The World Factbook|publisher=Cia.gov|access-date=2013-04-22}}</ref> Though the official language is [[Spanish language|Spanish]], it is often the second language among the Indigenous population.

Approximately 23 additional [[Amerindian languages]] are spoken by more than  40%  of the population.<ref name="CIATONGA">{{cite web|url= https://www.cia.gov/the-world-factbook/countries/guatemala/|title= Central America and Caribbean :: GUATEMALA|date= 7 October 2021|publisher= CIA The World Factbook}}</ref>  21 Mayan languages, one indigenous, and one Arawakan are spoken in Guatemala.<ref name=":02">{{Cite news|url=https://www.worldatlas.com/articles/what-languages-are-spoken-in-guatemala.html|title=What Languages Are Spoken In Guatemala?|work=WorldAtlas|access-date=2018-04-09|language=en}}</ref> The most significant are; [[Quiché language|Quiche]], [[Cakchiquel language|Cakchiquel]], [[Kekchi language|Kekchi]], [[Mam language|Mam]], [[Garifuna language|Garifuna]] and [[Xinca language|Xinca]].<ref name="CIATONGA"/>

There are also significant numbers of [[German language|German]], [[Chinese language|Chinese]], [[French language|French]] and [[English language|English]] speakers.
