==Honours and tributes== In January 1998, Gradi was awarded an [[Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire|MBE]] for services to football,<ref name=LMA/> but was stripped of the award in 2023.<ref name=Taylor-21Aug2023/><ref name="MacInnes-21Aug20232"/> In 2003 he was made an Honorary Freeman of the Borough of Crewe and Nantwich<ref name="McGarry">{{cite news|last1=McGarry|first1=Graham|title=Dario Gradi β Crewe's longest serving manager|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/stoke/content/articles/2009/07/02/dario_tribute_feature.shtml|access-date=30 March 2017|work=BBC Radio Stoke|date=2 July 2009}}</ref> and in the same year was awarded an honorary doctorate by [[Loughborough University]].<ref name="Biddle" /> In 2004, Gradi won the [[PFA Merit Award]] and was inducted into the [[English Football Hall of Fame]] for his services to football.<ref name="NFM">{{cite web|title=Hall of Fame: Dario Gradi|url=http://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/halloffame/dario-gradi|website=National Football Museum|access-date=28 February 2017|archive-date=1 March 2017|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170301012715/http://www.nationalfootballmuseum.com/halloffame/dario-gradi|url-status=dead}}</ref> In 2011 at the [[Football League Awards]] Gradi was again honoured by his peers as he won the 'Outstanding Contribution to League Football' for his work at Crewe.
