==Death== In late 1965, Nimitz suffered a stroke, complicated by [[pneumonia]]. In January 1966, he left the [[Naval Hospital Oakland|US Naval Hospital (Oak Knoll)]] in [[Oakland, California|Oakland]] to return home to his naval quarters.
