A post office was established in Zinc in 1900 and the town was incorporated in 1904.<ref name=":0">{{Cite web|title=Zinc (Boone County)|url=https://encyclopediaofarkansas.net/entries/zinc-boone-county-6203/|access-date=July 24, 2020|website=Encyclopedia of Arkansas|language=en}}</ref> The town had a number of business establishments and a school in the 1920s, but a flood in 1927 caused damage to homes and businesses. Zinc's population was 188 in 1930 and declined thereafter. The last store closed in Zinc in the late 1960s and the post office closed in 1975.<ref name=":0" /> Zinc, in the 21st century, became the headquarters of a chapter of the [[Knights of the Ku Klux Klan]] (KKK),<ref name=":0" /> classified as a [[hate group]] by the [[Anti-Defamation League]]<ref name=":3">{{cite web |url=http://www.adl.org/learn/ext_us/kkk/ |title=About the Ku Klux Klan |website=Anti-Defamation League |access-date=July 9, 2013 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20121003050902/http://www.adl.org/learn/ext_us/kkk/ |archive-date=October 3, 2012 }}</ref> and the [[Southern Poverty Law Center]].<ref>{{Cite web|url=https://www.splcenter.org/fighting-hate/extremist-files/ideology/ku-klux-klan|title=Ku Klux Klan|website=Southern Poverty Law Center}}</ref> The "Christian Revival Center" near Zinc belongs to a [[preacher]] named [[Thomas Robb (Ku Klux Klan)|Thomas Robb]] who is also the leader of the [[Ku Klux Klan|Knights of the KKK]].
