==History== WFP was established in 1961<ref>{{cite web|title=UN Food Programme β History|url=https://www.wfp.org/history|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201009104141/https://www.wfp.org/history|archive-date=9 October 2020|access-date=9 October 2020|publisher=World Food Program}}</ref> after the 1960 [[Food and Agriculture Organization]] (FAO) Conference, when [[George McGovern]], director of the US [[Food for Peace]] Programmes, proposed establishing a multilateral food aid programme. WFP launched its first programmes in 1963 by the FAO and the [[United Nations General Assembly]] on a three-year experimental basis, supporting the [[Nubians|Nubian population]] at [[Wadi Halfa]] in Sudan.
