The word "west" is a [[Germanic languages|Germanic]] word passed into some [[Romance languages]] (''ouest'' in French, ''oest'' in Catalan, ''ovest'' in Italian, ''vest'' in Romanian, ''oeste'' in Spanish and Portuguese).
