==Etymology==
The name of the town is officially "Addison", but the community is most often referred to by the name of its post office, "Webster Springs".<ref name="P.O. Name">{{cite book |last=Romano |first=Mark |title=The Webster Springs Hotel and Historic Springs, WV: The Summer Resort Center |edition=Limited Edition First |page=15 |chapter="The Historic Springs" |publisher=Mark Romano |year=2007 |isbn=978-0-9720212-6-5 }}</ref> It is also labeled on some maps as "Addison", and some as "Webster Springs". The unofficial name has gone so far that the county commission's letterhead reads "Webster Springs," rather than "Addison", which it had previously.

Other names for the town have included Elk Lick and Fork Lick.<ref name="P.O. Name" />
