Vandana Shiva was born in [[Dehradun]]. Her father was a conservator of forests, and her mother was a farmer with a love for nature. Shiva studied physics at [[Punjab University, Chandigarh|Punjab University]] in [[Chandigarh]], graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in 1972.<ref name=shearer>Benjamin F. Shearer, Barbara S.
