==History== This area lies within the traditional homeland of the [[Menominee]], who lived here for millennia before European arrival. After years of negotiations with the [[Ho-Chunk]] and the United States government about how to accommodate the incoming populations of [[Oneida Indian Nation|Oneida]], [[Stockbridge-Munsee Community|Stockbridge-Munsee]], and [[Brothertown Indians|Brothertown]] peoples following their [[Indian removal|removal]] from New York, the Menominee signed the 1836 [[Treaty of the Cedars]] and ceded this territory to the United States.<ref>{{Cite web|url=http://www.mpm.edu/content/wirp/ICW-108.html|title=Menominee Treaties and Treaty Rights|website=Indian Country Wisconsin|access-date=October 5, 2018}}</ref> Following this land cession, white settlement could begin.
