==Etymology==
Sumbawa come from Portuguese Cumbava or Cimbava, assimilated from the locally used name ''Sambawa'' (still found as such in [[Makassarese language|Makassarese]], cf. also ''Semawa'' in the [[Sumbawa language]]).
