Such waves are often exploited by [[gliding|glider pilots]]. Standing waves and [[hydraulic jump]]s also form on fast flowing [[Rapids|river rapids]] and tidal currents such as the [[Saltstraumen]] [[Whirlpool|maelstrom]].
