Springport was [[plat]]ted in 1868 when the Fort Wayne, Muncie and Cincinnati Railroad was extended to that point.<ref name="Hazzard1906">{{cite book|last=Hazzard|first=George|title=Hazzard's History of Henry County, Indiana, 1822-1906|url=https://archive.org/details/hazzardshistoryo02hazz|year=1906|publisher=G. Springport Christian Church, founded in 1904, is currently the largest building in town.
