==Geography== The township is in the northeast corner of Crawford County, bordered to the north by [[Erie County, Pennsylvania|Erie County]] and to the east by [[Warren County, Pennsylvania|Warren County]]. The township surrounds the borough of [[Spartansburg, Pennsylvania|Spartansburg]], a separate municipality located northeast of the center of the township. According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], Sparta Township has a total area of {{convert|108.8|sqkm|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|108.3|sqkm|order=flip}} is land and {{convert|0.5|sqkm|order=flip|1}}, or 0.45%, is water.<ref name="Census 2010"/> === Natural features === The elevation of Sparta Township ranges from a low of 1,320 feet at East Branch of Oil Creek to 1,913 feet (also highest point in Crawford County) in the northeastern part of the township. Eastman Hill, in the eastern part of the township, is the most prominent ridge in the township. Tributaries of Oil Creek, such as [[Stranahan Run (East Branch Oil Creek tributary)|Stranahan Run]], [[Patrick Run (East Branch Oil Creek tributary)|Patrick Run]], [[Coon Run (East Branch Oil Creek tributary)|Coon Run]], [[Britton Run (East Branch Oil Creek tributary)|Britton Run]], [[Twomile Creek (East Branch Oil Creek tributary)|Twomile Creek]], and Fivemile Creek, drain most of the township, with a small portion in the northeastern part being drained by Brokenstraw Creek tributaries.
