== Current series == In 2010, Spain updated their national sides in order to comply with the European commission recommendations. In the €1 and €2 coins, the same portrait of king [[Juan Carlos I]] was used, but the year position was placed in the inner part of the coin. Moreover, the twelve star ring no longer contained chiselled sections.<ref>{{cite web|url=http://ec.europa.eu/economy_finance/the_euro/coins8656_en.htm|title=Asuntos Económicos y Financieros – Caras Nacionales<nowiki>[ES]</nowiki> |access-date=31 July 2009 |author=Comisión Europea|year=2009|author-link=Comisión Europea}}</ref> The chiselled sections were also removed from designs for the other coins. In 2015, the portrait on the €1 and €2 coins was changed to that of the new King [[Felipe VI of Spain|Felipe VI]] following his father's abdication the previous year.<ref>{{cite news|title=Las monedas de uno y dos euros de Felipe VI entran en circulación|trans-title=Felipe VI one- and two-euro coins enter into circulation|url=http://economia.elpais.com/economia/2015/02/02/actualidad/1422901384_870205.html|access-date=18 March 2015|work=[[El País (Spain)|El País]]|date=2 February 2015|location=Madrid|language=es}}</ref> {{Coin image box 8 singles | header = Depiction of Spanish euro coinage (second series) (Obverse side) | column_1_width = 150 | column_2_width = 166 | column_3_width = 157 | denom_1 = € 0.01 | denom_2 = € 0.02 | denom_3 = € 0.05 | image_1 = | image_2 = | image_3 = | row_1_caption = The Obradoiro façade of the [[Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela]] | denom_4 = € 0.10 | denom_5 = € 0.20 | denom_6 = € 0.50 | image_4 = | image_5 = | image_6 = | row_2_caption = [[Miguel de Cervantes]], Spanish writer | denom_7 = € 1.00 | denom_8 = € 2.00 | header_9 = € 2 Coin Edge | box_9 = [[File:2€ edge inv2.svg|155px]] for a total of 12 stars | image_7 = | image_8 = | row_3_caption = Effigy of [[Felipe VI of Spain|Felipe VI]] (''since 2015'') }}
