==Toponymy== The village was originally known as Schleisingerville, after [[Baruch Schleisinger Weil]], a merchant and politician who developed the community as a railroad stop in the 1840s and 1850s. Locals sometimes abbreviated the four-syllable name to "Slinger," and on May 3, 1921, the village residents overwhelmingly voted to make Slinger the official name.<ref>Mrs. Robt.
