==History==
The first inhabitants of the area they called ''Poconnuck'' were the [[Mattabesec]] Native Americans. These were part of what became known as the [[Wappinger confederacy]]; in turn, it belonged to the loose [[Algonquian peoples|Algonquian]] confederacy.
