The city of Senath was first settled by A.W. Douglas, who is believed to have moved into the area in 1878.<ref name=":0">{{Cite book |last=Douglas |first=Robert Sidney |title=History of southeast Missouri : a narrative account of its historical progress, its people and its principal interests |publisher=The Lewis Pub.
