On June 3, 1959, a severe thunderstorm dropped up to {{convert|18|in|cm}} of hail on the town. Hail fell in the town for a record 85 minutes and the temperature dropped from {{cvt|80|F}} to {{cvt|38|F}} at the height of the storm. On May 24, 2021 an [[List of United States tornadoes from April to May 2021#May 24 event|EF1 tornado]] hit the community, flipping a train and damaging buildings.
