The community was established in 1890 (or 1880<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=InM_AAAAYAAJ&pg=PA96 | title=History of Hamilton and Clay Counties, Nebraska, Volume 1 | publisher=S.J. An unusual point in the town's history is the defunct "Zoo Nebraska", which was near Royal.
