==Geography== Rosewood Heights is located in northwestern Madison County at {{coord|38|53|29|N|90|4|19|W|region:US_type:city}} (38.891414, -90.071813).<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> It is bordered to the east by [[Bethalto, Illinois|Bethalto]], to the south by [[Wood River, Illinois|Wood River]], to the west by [[East Alton, Illinois|East Alton]], and to the north by [[Cottage Hills, Illinois|Cottage Hills]]. Illinois Routes [[Illinois Route 111|111]] and [[Illinois Route 140|140]] (West MacArthur Drive) form the northern border of the CDP. IL 140 leads west {{convert|6|mi|0}} to [[Alton, Illinois|Alton]] and east through Bethalto {{convert|12|mi}} to [[Hamel, Illinois|Hamel]], while IL 111 leads northwest {{convert|9|mi|0}} to [[Godfrey, Illinois|Godfrey]] and south {{convert|4|mi|0}} to the center of Wood River. [[Illinois Route 255]], a four-lane expressway, runs along the east edge of Rosewood Heights, with access from Exit 10 (IL 111-140). IL 255 leads south {{convert|10|mi|0}} to Interstates [[Interstate 255|255]] and [[Interstate 270 (Missouri–Illinois)|270]] and northwest {{convert|9|mi|0}} to its end at [[U.S. Route 67]] in Godfrey. Downtown [[St. Louis]] is {{convert|27|mi}} southwest of Rosewood Heights. According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the CDP has a total area of {{convert|1.7|sqmi|km2}}, of which {{convert|0.003|sqmi|sqkm|3}}, or 0.18%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2022"/> The community drains northwest toward the East Fork of the [[Wood River (Illinois)|Wood River]], which joins the [[Mississippi River]] at East Alton.
