== Early life ==

He earned his [[Bachelor of Arts]] in economics and Russian at the [[Vancouver School of Economics]] of the [[University of British Columbia]], and went on a scholarship to the [[University of Washington]] in Seattle.<ref name=":2" /> He went on to complete his [[PhD]] from the [[Massachusetts Institute of Technology]] while continuing to study at the [[London School of Economics]].<ref name=":2" />
