==Early life==
Jordan was born in [[Charleston, South Carolina]]. After returning from Vietnam in 1970, Jordan studied [[physics]] at [[The Citadel]]. He graduated in 1974 with a Bachelor of Science degree and began working for the [[United States Navy|U.S. Navy]] as a [[nuclear engineering|nuclear engineer]].<ref name="untitled" /> He began writing in 1977.
