==History== Rio Grande was established on July 6, 1874. The name of Rio Grande was chosen to commemorate the [[Mexican–American War]].<ref>{{cite book | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=Gefpsoo1nRIC&pg=PA219 | title=A Geography of Ohio | publisher=Kent State University Press | date=1996 | access-date=December 8, 2013 | author=Peacefull, Leonard | pages=219| isbn=9780873385251 }}</ref> Despite Gallia County being named for its original French settlers,<ref>{{cite web | url=https://books.google.com/books?id=DmxNAQAAMAAJ&q=gallia&pg=PR1 |title = History of Gallia County: Containing a Condensed History of the County; Biographical Sketches; General Statistics; Miscellaneous Matters &c|year = 1882}}</ref> [[Wales|Welsh]] immigrants began to arrive to the area in 1818, and during the 1830s and 1840s, more than 3,000 more arrived from the parishes of [[Pennant, Ceredigion|Pennant]], [[Tregaron]], [[Llangeitho]], Trefilan, [[Llangwyryfon]], and [[Llanddeiniolen]] in [[Ceredigion]] (then known as Cardiganshire).
