Riesel, Texas, named after W.H. Riesel, one of the original settlers who built a [[Cotton gin]] there, has steadily been growing since being settled around 1880–1890.<ref>[https://tshaonline.org/handbook/online/articles/hlr20 Riesel at TSHA Online]</ref> With the exception of a small decrease in population from 1930 to 1950, Riesel's population has continued to grow to a point where the town currently has over 1,000 residents.<ref>[http://www.city-data.com/city/Riesel-Texas.html Riesel at City-Data]</ref>

A new power plant has increased city funds and the population.
