==History== The [[Chicago, Burlington and Quincy Railroad]] [[plat]]ted the Raymer [[townsite]] in [[Weld County, Colorado|Weld County]] in 1888.<ref name=ColoPlaceNames>{{cite book |last=Eichler |first= Geo. R. |title=Colorado Place Names |location=Boulder, Colo. |publisher=Johnson Publishing Company |year=1977 |lccn=77-89726}}</ref> The town was named for George Raymer, an assistant chief engineer for the railroad.<ref name=ColoPlaceNames/> The Raymer [[United States Post Office Department|Post Office]] opened on June 27, 1888.<ref name=ColoPostOffices>{{cite book | last = Bauer | first = William H. |author2=James L. Ozment |author3=John H. Willard | title = Colorado Post Offices 1859-1989 |location=Denver, Co. |publisher = The [[Colorado Railroad Museum]] | year = 1990 | pages = 105, 120 | isbn = 0-918654-42-4 |lccn= 90-034759}}</ref> The town flourished for a while, but families eventually moved away and the Post Office closed on May 14, 1895.<ref name=ColoPostOffices/> The town was given a second life when it was replatted in 1909.<ref name=ColoPlaceNames/> On November 13, 1909, the [[United States Post Office Department]] open a new post office named [[New Raymer, Colorado|New Raymer]] to distinguish it from the old Raymer post office.<ref name=ColoPostOffices/> The town was incorporated in 1919 under its original name as the Town of Raymer.<ref name=ColoPlaceNames/> The [[Colorado|State of Colorado]] uses the name Raymer for the town, but the [[United States Postal Service]] uses the name [[New Raymer, Colorado|New Raymer]] ([[ZIP code]] 80742) and refuses to accept the name Raymer for postal delivery.<ref name=ZIPcode>{{cite web | date = December 8, 2006 | url = http://zip4.usps.com/zip4/citytown.jsp | title = ZIP Code Lookup| format = [[JavaScript]]/[[HTML]] | publisher = United States Postal Service | accessdate = December 8, 2006}}</ref> Either name may appear on maps or in gazetteers.
