==History== The process of founding the Order of Canada began in early 1966 and concluded on 17 April 1967,<ref>{{Harvnb| McCreery| 2005| p=xiii}}</ref> when the organization was instituted by Queen Elizabeth II, on the [[advice (constitutional)|advice]] of the [[Prime Minister of Canada|Canadian prime minister]], [[Lester B. Pearson]], who was assisted with the establishment of the order by [[John Matheson]]. The [[snowflake]] design for the order was suggested by the diplomat [[John G. H.
