[[Plat]]ted by George and Henry Beymer in 1805,<ref name=Sarchet>{{cite book|last=Sarchet|first=Cyrus Parkinson Beatty|title=History of Guernsey County, Ohio, Volume 1|url=https://archive.org/stream/historyofguernse01sarc#page/344/mode/2up|year=1911|publisher=B.F. In the course of their campaign through Ohio, the [[Confederate States Army|Confederate]] raiders appeared in several Guernsey County villages, including Old Washington, where they wreaked havoc before being caught by [[Union Army|Union]] cavalry.
