Prior to its creation, Ocean County was almost entirely within [[Shrewsbury Township, New Jersey|Shrewsbury Township]] in [[Monmouth County, New Jersey|Monmouth County]], with the exception of [[Tuckerton, New Jersey|Tuckerton]] and [[Little Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey|Little Egg Harbor Township]].<ref>{{Cite web |title=history of NJ |url=https://www.nj.gov/dep/njgs/enviroed/oldpubs/bulletin67.pdf}}</ref> Ocean County was established on February 15, 1850, from portions of Monmouth county; Little Egg Harbor Township was annexed from [[Burlington County, New Jersey|Burlington County]] on March 30, 1891.<ref name=Story>Snyder, John P.
