==Geography== Oakwood is located in central Lawrence County at {{coord|41|0|25|N|80|22|35|W|type:city}} (41.007064, -80.376461),<ref name="GR1">{{cite web|url=https://www.census.gov/geographies/reference-files/time-series/geo/gazetteer-files.html|publisher=[[United States Census Bureau]]|access-date=2011-04-23|date=2011-02-12|title=US Gazetteer files: 2010, 2000, and 1990}}</ref> in the eastern part of [[Union Township, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania|Union Township]]. It is bordered to the east by the city of [[New Castle, Pennsylvania|New Castle]], to the northeast by [[Neshannock Township, Pennsylvania|Neshannock Township]], to the west by [[Interstate 376]], and to the south by the [[Oakland, Lawrence County, Pennsylvania|Oakland CDP]] in Union Township. I-376 leads north {{convert|13|mi}} to [[Interstate 80 in Pennsylvania|Interstate 80]] near [[Sharon, Pennsylvania|Sharon]] and south the same distance to the [[Pennsylvania Turnpike]] in [[Big Beaver, Pennsylvania|Big Beaver]]. [[U.S. Route 224#Pennsylvania|U.S. Route 224]] (West State Street) is the main road through the center of Oakwood, leading east to its terminus in the center of New Castle and west {{convert|16|mi}} to [[Boardman, Ohio]], on the southern outskirts of [[Youngstown, Ohio|Youngstown]]. [[U.S. Route 422]] (Sampson Street) runs up the [[Shenango River]] valley along the northeastern edge of the community, leading southeast into New Castle and northwest {{convert|16|mi}} to Youngstown, Ohio. According to the [[United States Census Bureau]], the Oakwood CDP has a total area of {{convert|6.9|km2|order=flip}}, of which {{convert|6.8|km2|order=flip}} are land and {{convert|0.1|sqkm|order=flip|2}}, of 2.01%, are water.<ref name="CenPopGazetteer2019">{{cite web|title=2019 U.S. Gazetteer Files: Places: Pennsylvania|url=https://www2.census.gov/geo/docs/maps-data/data/gazetteer/2019_Gazetteer/2019_gaz_place_42.txt|publisher=United States Census Bureau|access-date=October 8, 2020}}</ref> The Shenango River forms the northeastern border of the community and of Union Township.
